Although I no longer service this mail route, when I learned that the friars were hosting the Road to Rome Raffle I bought 3 tickets with the mindset that I was making a donation to a worthy group.

While it has been a lifelong dream of mine to go to Italy, never in a million years did I think I would win! Traveling to Italy like this would have never been possible on my own. Thank you to the Capuchins and to all who supported this raffle. Winning the trip to Rome is a longtime Christmas wish come true!” – Kathy Moody

We are thrilled to announce that the 2010 Road to Rome Raffle Early Bird Prize Winner is Jeanie Botkin from Kansas City, MO. We are honored and humbled to be able to present Jeanie and her husband with roundtrip airfare for two to Chicago and a 3-night stay at the luxurious Chicago Hyatt Regency’s Premiere Presidential Suite, valued at $14,000.

Jeanie shared her thoughts on what winning this prize means to her:

“I’ve recently been challenged by my church at home to examine whether my spending habits reflect my beliefs not only about spirituality but also about helping others in our community who are less fortunate. The Capuchin Friars and the person who donated the raffle ticket money on my behalf are certainly great educators in this regard.

My husband and I are so thrilled to have won the trip to Chicago but I believe we all are even more blessed by the generosity of those who have contributed money to the Brown Robe Benefit. This money will serve those in our communities who are in such dire need during these hard economic times. Thanks to the Capuchin Friars for making this all possible and for reminding us all of the importance of remembering those who live across the street, next door and all around us who need our help.”

We’re Pleased to Announce

Adele Arakawa, news anchor with Denver Channel 9News (KUSA-TV), will mark her fourteenth year of service as the Mistress of Ceremonies at the 2010 Brown Robe Benefit. Everyone involved with the event is thrilled to have Adele as part of the team.

The BRB will be held at the Grand Hyatt Denver on Friday, October 1. Make your reservations early and join Adele, the Capuchin friars, and scores of their friends for this year’s Brown Robe Benefit. It is going to be a wonderful evening.

Caution, Stones Still Rolling In

Two more garden stones decorated by the friars have arrived. There are now about a dozen of them ready to do your bidding, after you’ve done your bidding. The sad-eyed bug covered with tau crosses is one of Brother Charles Polifka’s submissions; and the stone with “Logo Friar” on it, the work (perhaps still in progress) of Brother Magnum Mysterium.
